 Something Old, Something New is more than a collection of songs. Its a gathering of stories, friendships, memories, and of dreams that refuse to fade and of songs that simply insisted on being written … All lovingly brought together in the hope that every song leaves the world a little kinder than it found it, and every heart a little more connected than before.

Cherelle Jardine marks her return with a new solo album, arriving on streaming platforms August 22 2026, which coincides with the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Awards weekend.  Cherelle has been honoured with six nominations: Songwriter, Vocalist, Rising Star, Emerging Artist, Single, and Video for the album’s opening track, “It’s a Beautiful Day.”

Calliing the album "Something Old, Something New" couldn’t be more fitting. 

The album weaves together newly written songs with long-lost recordings, forgotten treasures, and fresh interpretations of music that has patiently waited years, and in some cases decades, to finally be heard. Along the way, it celebrates lifelong friendships, extraordinary collaborators, and the people who helped shaped Cherelle’s musical journey.

The title track, “Something Old, Something New,” was written by Doug Bennett (Doug and the Slugs), Marc Gladstone, Chris Murray Driver, and Jay Wittur when they were in Doug and the Slugs.  Although the song was never released, hearing an early demo inspired Cherelle to give it the life it always deserved. It also became the perfect opportunity to honour her husband and musical partner, Marc Gladstone, whose talent, encouragement and unwavering support have been woven through many chapters of her career.  Co-Produced with Marc and longtime friend and award winning engineer Sheldon Zaharko, the recording brought together Marc, Chris Murray Driver and Jay Wittur, while Colin Weinmaster added synthesizer, Tom Keenlyside played trumpet along with tenor, alto and baritone saxophone, Brian Poulsen played electric guitar, and Jerry Cook completed the horn section with a slinky saxophone solo.

Several of the album’s newest songs were created alongside Studio 17 Producer and Songwriter Colin Weinmaster, including “It’s a Beautiful Day”, a song bursting with joy, love and 60’s inspired vibes, a feel good anthem that lifts the heart and celebrates life’s magic and “Lay the Weapons Down" a fearless protest rock anthem telling us it’s time to disarm our hate, move beyond division, and choose compassion over conflict.

“Love’s Gotta Get Louder,” co-written with Colin and Daryl Burgess, continues the album’s story. Inspired by today’s headlines yet timeless in its message.  Love’s Gotta Get Louder is a heartfelt plea for peace.  It reminds us that beyond our differences, we’re simply “eight billion souls making a pathway home” and that love's gotta get louder, it's gotta to be our battle cry!  Watch for the new video on her Cherelle's YT channel.

Completing this collection of new recordings with Colin is the timeless classic “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair),” written by John Phillips, adding just the right touch of peace, love and flower-power nostalgia.

The spirit of rediscovery continues with “Let’s Spend the Night Together.” Originally recorded at BullFrog Studios in Vancouver during the late 1990s, the performance spent decades resting quietly on two-inch analogue tape in Cherelle's closet. More than once, Cherelle joked about throwing the tapes away before Sheldon Zaharko stepped in with another idea. The recordings were professionally restored through a delicate tape-baking process at Hipposonic Studios, allowing the music to be heard once again.

While preserving much of the original performance, the recording was lovingly reimagined. Marc Gladstone added expressive keyboard parts, Al Harlow of Prism contributed his signature electric guitar, and Colin Weinmaster created fresh horn arrangements for Tom Keenlyside’s horn artistry.  Cherelle recorded a brand-new lead vocal and, together with Marc, added new harmonies. Perhaps the most touching moment came when the beautiful background vocals of her dearly departed friend Rachel Page, emerged beautifully intact from the original recording, allowing her voice to once again blend alongside Cherelle’s, joined by the rich harmonies of Arlen Park.

The album’s title also inspired the inclusion of one of Cherelle’s favourite songs from Stone Poets, the award-winning band she continues to perform and write with today. “Sweetest Sin”, an intimate, cinematic journey through the seductive pull of desire, the cost of addiction, and the courage to rise from the ashes. Sweetest Sin is as haunting as it is hopeful.” Written by Cherelle Jardine, Scott Jackson and Marc Gladstone, it originally appeared on the album “Smoke and Mirrors” but was never performed live. This collection finally gives the song another opportunity to shine.

The final chapter reaches back to The Jardines, the musical partnership between Cherelle and her daughter, Ajaye and a 7 piece alt country band. Although the album “Someone’s Stolen Tuesday” was completed, the project came to an end when Ajaye moved to Nashville to pursue her own solo career, leaving many wonderful songs unheard beyond the original release.

Wanting to share them with a new generation of listeners, Cherelle revisited three personal favourites: “I Want More,” both tender and soul-stirring, is a heartfelt portrait of love, longing, and the quiet hope shared by two hearts beneath the same velvet sky,  “Someone’s Stolen Tuesday,” poignant and relatable, it tells the story of two hearts navigating the demands of everyday life, reminding us that love isn’t measured by the time we have, but by how deeply we treasure it and “Five Years Ago,” exhilarating and deeply heartfelt, explores the intoxicating collision of love, timing, and destiny, where two hearts discover that the greatest connections sometimes arrive just a little too late!

While preserving the heart of the original recordings, Cherelle worked once again with Sheldon Zaharko, re-recorded the lead vocals, refreshed portions of the lyrics, added new harmonies with Marc, welcomed Greg Stuart on drums, and retained the wonderful original performances of Doug Liddle on electric guitar and Michael Flunkert on steel guitar.
